After the birth of Alara, we were once again reminded of the weaknesses in our own lives and how God is truly mighty. We arrived home ragged yet full of humility and hope.
A new chapter has now begun...
Sky was curious about this brand-new addition to the house. I honestly think he thought her presence was temporary at first, but curiosity turned to jealousy and jealousy turned to aggression. We had never seen this type of behavior from Sky before. He was always happy, ornery, but happy. Now, he developed hitting, hair pulling, and scratching behaviors that made us have to really watch him around his baby sister. I know now that his life was turned upside-down, and this was his only way to communicate it.
Sky was at the age where he was starting kindergarten. Again, another huge life transition. He attended a school in our county made especially for children with special needs. I still worked out of the home full time--an hour away. Grandma helped with baby Alara and Sky to get on and off the bus while Jon and I worked. Jon, at this point, was working as a Registered Nurse. It was hectic to say the least.
This was the time Sky developed seizures. This new development landed us again at Children's hospital undergoing another first for us: EEG's. This was also the first time he had to take any medication on a consistent basis. Poor Sky. He still didn't sleep through the night, so Jon and I tag teamed getting up with him and Alara. I envied mothers who said their babies slept a solid 5-6 hours as a newborn. What!? I was lucky to sleep a solid 1.5!
Change is inevitable in life. We adjusted.
After a year of Sky's aggressive behavior, seizure activity, new school environment, AND a new baby in the house, we knew something needed to change. It was time for me to be home with the kids. I had climbed the ladder in the corporate world as far as you're able in 7 years, but something in me longed to be home with the kiddos. The Lord started to put a vision in my mind about how to raise these little people in our lives, and I had to answer that call.
Three years later...
Still sleep-deprived, BUT Sky's seizures are under control, he's walking independently, still not sleeping at night and aggressive tendencies, he actually loves his sister, toddler running around the house, new home and... another baby girl on the way.
We will pick up this story next time where we discover the secret to getting Sky to sleep.
Until next time...Live without Limits.
